Accessing information about your NDIS service and other disability related info is about to get a whole lot easier … April this year saw minister for Families and Social Services, Paul Fletcher announce the $51 million NDIS National Information Program Grants that will fund innovative projects to deliver up-to-date, high quality, accessible information about disability and specific disability types aimed at helping people with disability to live more accessible and connected lives.
The NDIS focuses on funding support and services to 460,000 Australians aged under 65, who have a permanent and significant disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need, but it’s often difficult to find information on that support, condition specific treatments and much, much more.
The aim is that The NDIS National Information Program Grants will further help these Australians achieve their goals by making the information they seek much more available – knowledge is power after all.
Paul Fletcher, the Minister for Families and Social Services, said the grants would fund innovative projects that will deliver up-to-date, high quality, accessible information about disability and specifically disability types.
With the first round of the NDIS National Information Program grants round opened and closed, but there are still more opportunities in 2019 for organisations to get involved.
Sarah Henderson, Assistant Minister for Social Services, Housing and Disability Services said the NDIS is all about choice and control for people with disability and by providing easily accessible information, we are increasing individuals’ ability to choose, and access disability supports and services that are right for them.
These grants are an opportunity to better the lives of Australians living with a disability. Henderson also commented on how the NDIS Local Area Coordinators and the new network of organisations run by people with disability and their families would share the resources produced from the funded projects.
We have little doubt these grants are a worthy undertaking for all involved.
