The NDIS and The 20-21 Federal Budget

In great financial news for Participants of the NDIS, the Government is providing an additional $3.9 billion to the NDIS, to ensure that NDIS participants receive the care and support they need now and into the future. The government has guaranteed ongoing funding for the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

It’s also delivering on its commitment to implement a Participant Service Guarantee for setting clear standards and timeframes for decision making by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).

This will make it easier for people with disability and their families to navigate the NDIS. The Government is providing an additional $799 million over four years to the NDIA and the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission to ensure participants receive quality supports as quickly as possible. This is complimented by the addition of Independent Assessment being implemented in 2021.

Importantly, The Government is also providing ongoing support for the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability. This Commission is due to report on its findings in 2022.

The success of the NDIS so far is shown by the more than 400 thousand participants now receiving benefits from the NDIS – many of whom have never received disability supports before. That number reflects the completion of the geographical rollout of the NDIS, which is now available in every corner of our fine land, including Christmas Island and Cocos Islands.

Further to this, the Government is progressing reforms to deliver enhanced access, quality and safety in aged care. This includes $1.6 billion for an additional 23,000 home care packages. That stands to benefit a huge number of NDIS participants and will go a long way in ensuring quality care for this segment of participants.

As Plan Managers, we’re fortunate to communicate daily with NDIS Participants from all over Australia who represent a wide range of recipients of disability supports, from early childhood right through to the elderly who may require home care. To us it’s as important now as it has ever been to listen to people affected by changes with the NDIS and thankfully, the NDIS and NDIA are extremely receptive to feedback and are proactive when it comes to making appropriate changes when they’re called for – something the Government listens to and assists with, in this instance, financially.

If you have feedback you’d like to share with the NDIS, you can email them here: feedback@ndis.gov.au and if you have feedback for us here at NDSP Plan Managers, we’d love to hear it. Click here to send us your thoughts.
