Healthy Mind is a mental health web-based platform designed through research for people with mild to borderline intellectual disabilities. Created by the Blackdog Institute, Healthy Mind provides supplementary level of support with specially adapted psychological approaches used by doctors and psychologists to be used in conjunction with face-to-face therapy.
For many of us, it can be challenging to know and identify if a person is undergoing something and is experiencing poor mental health. It can be a difficult subject to understand and approach, not just for the individual suffering, but also to those who care for them.
The beauty of Healthy Mind is that anyone can access this platform for free. This service can be introduced to anyone as a primary step in working towards a state of better mental health.
The platform is easy to read and is broken into these categories:
- Recognising feelings
- Breathe and relax
- Taming anger
- Having more fun
- Tackling unhelpful thinking
Their introductory videos give viewers easy to understand snippets of information on identifying emotions and feelings. They touch on general symptoms and they offer simple ways to manage a person’s mental health condition.
Here’s an introductory video about them:
As you move further into the program, you can also complete breathing exercises that are truly effective in calming one’s nerves. Watch this sample video:
Black Dog Institute’s aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone.
We encourage everyone to look at their program. Their videos are short and engaging, and their programs can easily become part of your daily routine.
