Whilst access to disability services remains a significant challenge especially for those living in far-flung areas, providers are getting more and more innovative nowadays to deliver practical and more timely healthcare support to everyone.
With several NDIS participants living in remote and rural parts of Australia, Fly2 Health aims to bring allied healthcare services closer to local communities in Western Australia (WA). Their services include: Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, and Speech Pathology/Therapy.
NDSP chats with Fly2 Health’s Managing Director Kennedy Lay — and here are three things you need to know about Fly2 Health:
1. Fly2 Health Group can arrange flights to any town or area with any dirt strip, even outside those that are listed on their website. A fun fact: because they do not run jet engines (similar to the ones on commercial flights), they can land on gravel strip instead which are commonly found in smaller WA communities. They can service anyone and anywhere in the Wheatbelt, Great Southern, Goldfields, Esperance, Midwest, Gascoyne and the Pilbara.
2. Did you know: it takes about eight hours to reach Esperance from Perth by car. And with their services, they can save time by flying for just two hours. That means their staff still get to see up to five clients for the day, as well as get home safely at the end of the day.
3. They have a unique charging model for their service fees. Because they fly in a straight line, they do not charge any kilometres to a participant. They split travel time between their clients. It’s pretty crazy when you think they fly a plane to reach clients while only charging approximately 1-1.2 hours of travel per client to somewhere like Esperance or Kalgoorlie.
