Global Business and Disability Network (GBDN) run a global campaign called #InvalidOpinions, set up to combat disability stereotypes and stigma experienced by people with disability, specifically in the labour/job market.
There are constant discussions on the subject of inclusivity in the workplace, but this particular campaign takes a refreshing approach by directing conversations from a different perspective.
Every day, people make generalisations and assumptions about people with disability with many of these assumptions being wrong. The Invalid Opinions campaign highlights individuals who are defying these ‘invalid opinions’ every day. It asks the viewer to confront their own beliefs and misconceptions that might be inadvertently contributing to individuals being held back in the world of work.

These kinds of discussions often touches on the difficulties that people living with a disability have in finding meaningful employment, but generally does not cover some of the reasons why it can be difficult for PWD. A key subject to address, we are sure you will agree.
This campaign showcases how people with disabilities can be dismissed, judged or belittled even if the person delivering comments or opinions are not being malicious when making them!
On the flip side, it could be that an employer assumes the person they’re addressing is weaker, more vulnerable, or less likely to succeed professionally in life because of their disability when in fact that may not be true at all!
Perhaps the most important part of the campaign, however, is who it speaks to – if you are an employer, take heed of the message it is spreading:
“Your opinion matters. Make sure it’s valid.”
